The working group tasked with drafting a new National Strategy for Advancing the Judiciary 2019-2024 held its second meeting at the premises of the High Judicial Council.

The group noted that after the first meeting, where the strategic framework for the future National Strategy had been presented, as developed by the USAID “Rule of Law in Serbia” project experts, a number of comments were submitted by the working group’s members to improve the initial text. It was pointed out that representatives of judges were the ones who had contributed the most to improving the first working draft of the Strategy.

It was agreed to improve the present draft using submitted comments, so that the working group members could express their views on such text at the next meeting. After receiving additional comments on the improved text of the draft Strategy, a public debate would be scheduled so that all interested parties could get acquainted with a new five-year strategic plan for further advancement of the work of the judiciary, as drawn up by the members of the working group.

The working group consists of representatives of all relevant judicial institutions and organisations and professional associations (Supreme Court of Cassation, Public Prosecutor's Office, law practitioners, Judicial Academy, Chamber of Notaries Public, Judges’ Association of Serbia, Association of Judges and Prosecutors of Serbia, etc.). Other participants are representatives of the National Assembly’s Committee on the Judiciary, and of European Integration and Finance Ministries. The working group is chaired by the Justice Minister.

The development of the new National Strategy for Advancing the Work of the Judiciary in the Republic of Serbia 2019-2024 is supported by the USAID through its “Rule of Law in Serbia” project.
